To learn more about L. Cohen is always
gratifying. In this biography, Liel Leibovitz does a very good job at
introducing Leonard as the artist he was, as the man, but also as the mind.
Cohen was part of several important moments in the history of the world, as an
observer, or participating through his music, giving concerts to the troops in
Israel, talking about the issues of the times he lived in. He defied the status
quo of the music industry, of the rock and roll as known in America. There were
too many famous musicians then (Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Kris Kristofferson,
Judy Collins, Toni Mitchel), and Cohen was starting his career late, after
being essentially a writer, mostly a poet. And then he decided to move into
that other world that looked more attractive to him, even when he didn't know
more than three chords (he used to say five). But he had what Federico García
Lorca described as "duende", a power and not a behaviour… a struggle
and not a concept that lives within the poet, and later on, in the
singer-songwriter.

He carved his way through that abyss and
finally got all the experiences, the satisfactions, the highs and lows, the
depression, the women and all the learnings during a long and robust career.

He had the will, the persistence and the
resilience to get exactly where he wanted to be. He didn't care about the
apparent obstacles, he used a bit of the Canadian naiveté, his bold vision of
the world and a pinch of cynicism to break the "I can not's" and turn them into a fruitful production.

Leibovitz made me think of him in a
different way and helped me understand my favourite writer and musician from
another perspective, more political in a way, that I haven't fully understood

by listening to Cohen's albums, from the first one to the last. You will

universe.

He extrañado escribir como nunca antes.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

How many times do we spend hours thinking about how happy we would like to be one day? Or when we will find true love? Two simple questions that all of us have asked to ourselves when we can't sleep at night cause of unhappiness, or loneliness or because we don't feel loved.

Happiness and love...Two words that lead our lives, that take us through so many different paths and journeys, even those of pain and sadness.

In this beautifully written poetry book, Tristesse takes us through her personal journey, from when everything was sad and dark, to a new path, a new image of herself and a rebirth.

She uses powerful verses, touching ones that made me identify myself with her and also remember what is that make us write and give a voice to the feelings that sometimes want to remain hidden, like rocks in the bottom of the sea. A strength that comes from our guts and can only come out if we are brave enough to let them out.

This is a highly recommended book. I liked it a lot, even though it took me to some places I thought I was never going to visit again. It was good to see my experiences are also shared by others.

Thank you, Tristesse for a beautiful journey.
todos estos detalles
de las respuestas a estas ansiedades
recuerdos inútiles de
épocas que están archivadas ya en
mi pasado que es ahora ajeno
First of all because Marina's voice reached me through the texts I read about her. I knew little to nothing about a 22 year old with great promise that passed away in a car accident where she was the only passenger to lose their life.
22 is an age when everything starts -or ends. In her case I think it was both. The beginning of a life, the continuity of it - somehow - and her unexpected and too early departure.

What to say about the absolute beauty of her words? The tone and rhythm of each story; the characters (any of us) perfectly described and developed within each fiction.

She was genius. She opened many doors and windows in my brain and heart and allowed me to rethink my life, my entire life and my real purpose -if I may say.

Marina lived a life full of happiness or completeness. That's what I learned from her words. Those were part fiction, part reality. Anyway, they felt TRUE, like vivid emotions and feelings erupting from each of her pores.

If I think about not having the option to keep on reading her stories, about the fact that she will not write anything again, it makes me sad. However, and thinking about the present and to honour her, I had the chance to have read her, meet her (it's a way of saying something) and imagine her as well as feeling her so close while I held the book in my hands on my way to work/home every day during the last week.

I started reading Creativity Inc. by Ed Catmull when I found reviews of her book on Indigo's website (love-hate relationship that I have with this store as I always end up being impulsive and buying more and more books, almost compulsively, even though I know there's no more room in my apartment to store them). As soon as I started reading, I couldn't stop. I forgot all about Pixar, Steve Jobs and Ed's intentions to create animated films in a time where it was kind of out of this world or something like that.

My intentions of finding inspiration to be more creative and make my work environment better vanished between the pages of my new favourite book (and now, one of my fav authors ever...only after Marguerite Duras).

What captivated me? Her spirit, of course. And obviously the perfection in her writing. I don't like to exaggerate about authors or books, but this girl is something else. She has a powerful voice and such a strong management of the language. She uses these words in a very delicate way, making you feel them fly close to your ears. You can hear them; very well vocalized in a beautiful tone, sad some times and never with frustration or anger.

Stories...That's what she left as a legacy. Stories that you would love to grow into more books. I thought also about her parents all the time and her professors and friends. Are there more manuscripts? What about her poetry? I'm a writer myself - a poet - and feel very anxious about never finding a poetry book with her name on the cover.

I might call her parents and ask about that and also will tell them the magic she laid on me, how she inspired me to write again after a really long hibernation period. Today, I feel my imagination is bigger than before as well as my will to say what and how I feel in this world.

Of course I'm returning to Ed's. I could never leave that one without knowing how everything happened. I want to know how Buzz Light Year and the Cowboy came to life, and what inspired all those amazing animated films that I still enjoy. I also want to know how could I link it all together and bring the perfection of Marina's writing and the creativity of Ed's into my everyday life. Maybe it's not too complicated. Maybe it's just about letting things flow and being spontaneous, something that sometimes we lose for a lot of reasons, especially because we are too busy to be less stressed out about little things.
la ciudad grande
enorme

velocidades

bocinas
vapor
olores
escupitajos

basura
ricos
pobres

hombres y mujeres

negros
chinos
blancos
sudacas
hindúes

vivo
veo a diario
me contagio de

la paranoia

esquizofrenia

ganas de gritar y escapar
o saltar a las rieles del metro
así ...
...
...

es un impulso

o simplemente seguir cantando en mi cabeza:

ciudad de locos corazones
ciudad de pobres corazones
de corazones podridos
corazones llenos
lindos
radiantes

o mantener el diálogo interno
con todas las que soy
y los reproches:

no tomes café camila, es malo
no comas esto, estás gorda

no te vuelvas una máquina camila

siente
otra vez siente
como antes

esta ciudad es extraña
impersonal
automática
fría

llena de:

colores, pero fría
acentos, pero fría
comidas, pero fría

gente,pero súper fría

ciudad grande
enorme
de edificios tan altos
metros y tranvías
autos y bicicletas

ciudad de transitar a pie
mi ciudad inmensa
llena
adolorida de tantos cuerpos
tantos pasos
tantos cuentos.
sin detenerse
me obliga a tomar aliento y reposar
de este viaje tan largo

En esta ciudad inmensa que
crece todavía
entre la niebla
con la nieve o el sol
crece
y no se calla

Entre las olas de ruido
escucho tu voz
cercana y a ratos ya no tanto
y tengo miedo olvidarla
y olvidarte

No te puedo ver
aunque intento casi demencialmente
a diario
antes de dormir y cuando duermo
o despierto

Y la luz sigue viajando
entre mis dedos
promesa de aliviarme
y encontrarte.
The mind can't sleep, can only live awake and
gorge, listening to the snow gather as
for some final assault.

It wishes Chekhov were here to minister
something- three drops of valerian,a glass
of rose water-anything, it wouldn't matter.

The mind would like to get out of here
onto the snow. It would like to run
with a pack of shaggy animals, all teeth,

under the moon, across the snow, leaving
no prints or spoor, nothing behind.
The mind is sick tonight.Ambarviolentahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01691039675200861786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29670332.post-59452934296065272822012-11-15T13:17:00.003-05:002012-11-15T13:17:42.157-05:00The End and the Beginning by Wisława SzymborskaTranslated By Joanna Trzeciak

After every war
someone has to clean up.
Things won’t
straighten themselves up, after all.

Someone has to push the rubble
to the side of the road,
so the corpse-filled wagons
can pass.

Someone has to get mired
in scum and ashes,
sofa springs,
splintered glass,
and bloody rags.

Someone has to drag in a girder
to prop up a wall.
Someone has to glaze a window,
rehang a door.

Photogenic it’s not,
and takes years.
All the cameras have left
for another war.

We’ll need the bridges back,
and new railway stations.
Sleeves will go ragged
from rolling them up.

Someone, broom in hand,
still recalls the way it was.
Someone else listens
and nods with unsevered head.
But already there are those nearby
starting to mill about
who will find it dull.

From out of the bushes
sometimes someone still unearths
rusted-out arguments
and carries them to the garbage pile.

Those who knew
what was going on here
must make way for
those who know little.
And less than little.
And finally as little as nothing.

In the grass that has overgrown
causes and effects,
someone must be stretched out
blade of grass in his mouth
gazing at the clouds.

tal vez piedras y barro

horas muertas
horas de mentira como si
este día no fuera día
y la gente esperando y sin esperar
sin saber qué es lo que viene o no

es una noche ácida
larga y a tientas

enorme
entre los ruidos
ensordecedores de tranvías
trenes, subterráneos y
gente

Mientras camino
no hago sino pensarte
envuelto en tu bufanda naranja
contándome historias

Mientras camino
el viento golpea mi cara
y veo tu rostro en cada esquina

En las estaciones de tren
tu enorme sonrisa y tú
hablando siempre rápido, con las manos
entre carcajadas/
me pareció desde siempre que
te gustaba tanto reír

Mientras camino

Mujer
no pares
y no dudes

En este silencio desconocido
mastico ciertas páginas de tu historia
lugares que no conocía
y hoy descubro
no intuyo misterios

Tu historia
simple y compleja
un arco iris
el mar agitado
aquel bosque donde te sentabas
a soñar

Intento un rompecabezas
pero a estas alturas no sirve

Mientras camino
siento
que eres todo,
y así me envuelves
en tu cálido abrazo
desde donde sea que estés

Y si miro a un espejo de antes
reconozco que no había tanta luz

Hoy,
en este nuevo reflejo
me iluminas
con una calidez difícil de asumir
porque ya es de otro lugar

Mientras camino Toronto

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

View all my reviewsAmbarviolentahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01691039675200861786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29670332.post-58710121877279154352011-12-29T08:20:00.001-05:002011-12-29T08:20:50.480-05:00Cuentos orientalesOriental Tales by Marguerite Yourcenar

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

View all my reviewsAmbarviolentahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01691039675200861786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29670332.post-61532839042373191802011-10-07T13:50:00.000-04:002011-10-07T14:02:24.517-04:00Midnight walkingCiudad veloz
de ahora y
de más tarde

pasos
bizarros
hostiles
rostros
apurados
de hoy y de después

la ciudad y la noche
tu pelo azul de
perro infernal

pronunciar tu nombre

un ojo y
tres ojos y
más ojos

tus dedos dentro mío
calientes
mojados en tu boca y en la mía

saliva
oro
luzAmbarviolentahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01691039675200861786noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29670332.post-13465019722411606652011-07-29T17:43:00.000-04:002011-07-29T17:55:10.551-04:00Luna nuevaSe acerca otro ciclo

No digo nada
Solamente espero.Ambarviolentahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01691039675200861786noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-29670332.post-41046140641634817522011-05-29T14:39:00.000-04:002011-05-29T14:42:22.800-04:00Nada
ni la noche
ni este inmenso territorio

Casi nada te regresa
a mi memoria
adormecida
congelada
deshabitada de
tu imagen y tu voz
de mis libros y mis calles
de las puertas coloniales y
nosotros
llenos pero vacíos
ajenos
extraviadosAmbarviolentahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01691039675200861786noreply@blogger.com0
